SEO from Hilden: get found on Google, in Maps and in AI search

The best website is useless if nobody finds it. With on-page, off-page and local optimization, I make sure customers in your area find you, and with GEO, that ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews recommend you too.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It covers everything that helps your website appear higher on Google and other search engines for relevant searches, without paying for ads.

Search engines work in three steps:

  1. Crawling: the search engine's programs visit your website and follow its links.
  2. Indexing: the pages they find are analyzed and added to the search index.
  3. Ranking: for every search, the search engine decides which pages answer the question best, based on content, technology, trust and the searcher's location.

Good SEO addresses all three. Broadly, it is divided into on-page optimization (everything on your website), off-page optimization (everything outside your website) and local SEO for searches with a regional focus.

On-page optimization: your website itself

On-page optimization is about the content, structure and technology of your own pages. This is the area you fully control, and usually the one that shows results fastest.

  • Keyword research & search intent: which terms do your customers really use, and what do they expect when they search for them?
  • Page titles and descriptions: the title and meta description decide whether people click in the search results.
  • Headings and structure: one clear H1 per page, meaningful subheadings, easy-to-read paragraphs.
  • Content: a dedicated page for each service that answers questions instead of just listing keywords.
  • Internal linking: connecting pages in a sensible way so visitors and search engines can find their way around.
  • Images: compressed, with descriptive file names and alt texts.
  • Structured data: machine-readable information about your company, services, FAQ and articles (schema.org).

Technical SEO

On-page optimization also includes the technology behind the scenes. It decides whether your content is found and rated well at all:

  • Loading time and Core Web Vitals: fast, stable pages without unnecessary scripts.
  • Mobile display: Google primarily evaluates the smartphone version of your website.
  • Indexing: XML sitemap, robots.txt, clean canonical tags, no duplicate content.
  • HTTPS and redirects: encrypted connection, correct 301 redirects, a custom 404 page.

Off-page optimization: trust from the outside

Off-page optimization is about signals outside your website that show search engines your business is relevant and trustworthy.

  • Backlinks: links from other websites. What matters is quality and topical relevance, not quantity.
  • Business directories and listings: consistent company details on Das Örtliche, Gelbe Seiten, the Chamber of Crafts (Handwerkskammer), Bing Places and Apple Maps.
  • Google Business Profile: fully maintained, with photos, services and regular posts.
  • Reviews: collecting and responding to genuine customer reviews.
  • Mentions: coverage in the local press, partner businesses, clubs, events.

Important: bought links or reviews violate Google's guidelines and can hurt your visibility. I rely exclusively on sustainable, clean methods.

What is GEO?

GEO stands for generative engine optimization, optimizing for AI-powered search. More and more people no longer ask their questions only on Google, but directly in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot or Gemini. Google itself also shows summarized AI answers above the classic search results with its AI Overviews.

The difference from SEO: instead of a list of ten links, the user gets a ready-made answer, often naming only a few sources or providers. The goal of GEO is for your business to be named and recommended in these answers.

How GEO works

  • Clear facts: who you are, what you offer, where you work, clearly worded and consistent everywhere.
  • Answer questions directly: FAQ and guide content that answers typical customer questions in a few sentences.
  • Structured data: machine-readable information that AI systems can easily process.
  • Mentions on trustworthy sites: directories, industry portals, press and review platforms.
  • Show expertise: author, experience, references and up-to-date content make your site a reliable source.

GEO does not replace SEO, it builds on it: AI search draws on the same web content that also ranks well on Google. If your SEO is solid, you have the best chance of showing up in AI answers too.

Local SEO for businesses in the region

For trades, medical practices and service providers, local SEO is often the biggest lever: anyone searching for “electrician Hilden” or “roofer near me” first sees the map with three businesses. A well-maintained Google Business Profile, reviews and strong service pages decide whether you appear there.

Frequently asked questions about SEO and GEO

Can I check my SEO status myself?

You get an easy-to-understand report on a regular basis. I am also currently developing a customer portal where you will soon be able to check your SEO status yourself at any time.

What is the difference between on-page and off-page optimization?

On-page covers everything on your own website: content, structure and technology. Off-page covers signals from the outside, such as links, directory listings, mentions and reviews.

What is GEO?

GEO stands for generative engine optimization: optimizing so that AI search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews name and recommend your business in their answers.

Do I need GEO in addition to SEO?

GEO builds on SEO. For most businesses, a solid SEO foundation is the first step; GEO is especially worthwhile if your customers research in advance and compare providers.

How fast will I be number 1?

No one can honestly promise that. First improvements often show after a few weeks, lasting rankings take months. You get a transparent report on your progress.

Can you buy backlinks?

Bought links violate Google's guidelines and can hurt your visibility. I rely on genuine mentions, directories and partnerships.

What is local SEO?

Local SEO makes sure you appear in searches with a regional focus and in Google Maps, mainly through your Google Business Profile, reviews and local content.
