Why maintenance is not a luxury

Neglected websites are the most common entry point for attacks. They also get slower over time, and small errors often go unnoticed until customers point them out. A maintenance contract makes sure none of that happens in the first place.

  • Security: core, extension and plugin updates installed and tested promptly.
  • Backups: daily backups, restored quickly if something goes wrong.
  • Monitoring: I notice outages before your customers do.
  • Fixed response times: small changes are included, depending on your contract.

Maintenance works best together with hosting in Germany. That way I keep an eye on both the server and the website.

Running a TYPO3 website? You will find everything specific to it under TYPO3 maintenance & support.

What maintenance includes and what it does not

To avoid any misunderstandings, here is a clear breakdown:

  • Included: security and maintenance updates within your current version, backups, uptime monitoring and, depending on your contract, a set amount of time for small changes.
  • Not included: moving to a new major version, for example a TYPO3 upgrade, new features or a redesign. For these you get a separate quote.

The recent php2shell security vulnerability in PHP is a good example of why regular updates matter so much.

Frequently asked questions about maintenance

Are version upgrades included in maintenance?

No. Updates within your current version are included. Moving to a new major version is a separate project, and you get a quote for it in advance.

What is the difference between WordPress and TYPO3 maintenance?

With WordPress, the focus is on frequent updates to the core, theme and plugins. TYPO3 has predictable long-term support versions, but extensions and upgrades take more effort. I handle both.

Can I see the update status of my website?

Soon, yes: in the new customer portal you will be able to see at any time when your website was last updated and backed up. The portal is currently in development.

How long does the contract run?

The maintenance contracts can be canceled monthly, with no minimum term.

Do you also maintain websites you did not build?

Yes. Before we start, I review the website once and, if needed, bring it to a state that can be maintained.

What happens in an emergency?

I restore the website from the backup and fix the cause. With the Premium contract, a response time of 4 hours on business days applies.
